LiveCut 0.8 summer beta preview

win32 LiveCut-0.8-beta-preview.dll.zip
macosx LiveCut-0.8-beta-preview.dmg.zip

due to high user demand I've decided to release a beta preview of Livecut for this summer so that you can glitch when I'll be in vacations :D

There are some change I'd like to make like adding factory presets and working on the GUI, but that will be after the summer.

this plugin needs tempo sync information
and is known to work in bidule, minihost, cubase, orion, fruityloops (you may need to check 'use fixed sie buffers').

check this thread on kvraudio

Im having difficulties getting it to start.
Tried live 4, tracktion 2, Minihost and Polac VSTi loader.
They all claim its not a valid VST so I'm thinking its something with my system.
I'm running Windows 2000 with the latest patches and all, what is it asking for in the setup that my comp doesent have.

Anyone with similar problems (that solved it)?

It's compiled for PIV and compatible processors.

there's no cpu check so I guess it's calling an unknown instruction.

testing under Plogue Bidule and not getting any sound out of it whats so ever.

it won't work in peak since peak doesn't send timeinfos.

for bidule try this patch.

you need to have a sync provider

I'm running it in FL Studio, and although it sounds incredible, I can't get it to play for more than a few measures. I even tried rendering it as a WAV, and after 4 or 7 measures, it will drop out completely, leaving the rest of the WAV in silence. Is this due to the fact that it's a beta release?

NO it's not a demo version, beta just mean that it's not supposed to be a finalized version but there's nothing like removing features.
it just works for me in Fruity loops studio 5 in both pattern and song mode. try playing with the settings

hopefully I've started working on it before someone asks me.

If you want an AU with a default GUI without any units on the controls, it's almost already there...

hi
tested it in renoise 1.5 on OS X and it stops putting out sound after a sec ond or so...
if i may add a feature request - implemented snyc. the vst~ in maxmsp doesnt send midisync info so livecut is unusuable there.. :/
p

At Tuesday, 26 July, 2005, Anonymous tomax said...

wonderful, thx. lil feature request for when you get back: a 16 element grid where you can "lock out" processing - i know the probabilistic stuff is likely (heh) buried in the libs but you could just pass audio on marked beats. would be way more fun and less glitch-prone than automating Bypass in the seq/daw... great stuff, thanks again to both you and Nick (PS can't wait to play with scanSynth too! please put a sidechain in to do weird stuff! ;)

At Tuesday, 26 July, 2005, Blogger mdsp said...

hi pure,

well for renoise I don't know, this is the second time I hear this.

for max/msp, I really don't want to use an internal sync, it's cycling74's job to implement the VST specs in vst~ not mine.

you should be able to use a metro connected to vst~ for example.

But I've already written some bits of a max/msp external for some max/msp addicted friends of mine. I have to dig the SDK in order to see how to use external max/msp clocks properly.

At Tuesday, 26 July, 2005, Blogger mdsp said...

for the grid thing, really it's just some bypass automation to do in your host or a midi gate before livecut.

I don't want to reinvent the wheel for each plug.
what's really ground breaking in livecut (on which I want and like to spend time) are Nick's algorithms, which are much different from most audio slicers because they doesn't slice beats evenly.

come on don't be lazy, you don't want your computer to do everything for you isn't? :p

At Tuesday, 26 July, 2005, Blogger mdsp said...

allright,

next time I won't release anything, you'll be happy.

I've said that the GUI is not finished, but anyway I don't see what you have against it.

my first goal was usablity, and FYI this GUI is based on sean evans work. I think he has nothing more to prove as a graphic designer.

it also uses the mini7 font which also over exposed but I can't see any problem with it.
it's not a design contest and remember that GUIs are also UIs and UI means usability, lisibility...

you've absolutely no right to criticize (it freeware man!), I could have left you with the default GUI of your host.

you really made very angry. You have no clue about the time I've spent working on it, you have too easy.

but you anonymous what can you do?

At Tuesday, 26 July, 2005, Anonymous Johan Larsby said...

Works as a wonder in tracktion 2 on os x.

And I like the GUI a lot.

Its easy to se, its easy to use. you feel like you have full control over the parameters.

cant think of a better way to make it right now ... nope still cant ... maybe I'd change the rightmost yellowish colour to something else, and tightened it up a bit, but that could be because I'm on a 12" and everything feels a bit cramped.

The font is great

Wow... This is a phenomenal plugin. Some of my friends turned me onto it this past weekend... This adds an extra element of psychedelic in psychedelic trance. I did have one minor question or concern.

Sometimes when livecut is doin it's thing it'll catch the audio at a wierd spot and produce a little click in the audio where it hasn't caught the audio at a zero crossing point. Is there any way to implement an envelope to perhaps cut down on the amount of clicking?

Doesn't work for me either -- invalid plugin. Tried it in FL3, Live4 and a DX wrapper -- all either crashed or plain wouldn't load it. I'm running Win98SE on a 1.21 GHz Athlon, guessing that's the problem. Ironically, it DOES work on my 500 MHz iBook.

what an amazing plug-in! can create some truly inspiring drum work if used sparingly.

unfortunately im suffering short audio cutouts when using the plug-in. i'm running it in Live5 on warpcut mode, with it sitting at 100% straight when not in use. at first i thought the cutouts were a soundcard issue (as im running the sound straight out of my ibook) but looking at the levels on the mixer, the sound is cutting out before it reached the master channel, so i can only guess its an issue with the vst.
the cutouts are only very short - more like pops, but they make it pretty impossible to use for live work, which is a real shame because its an otherwise amazing bit of work!

absolutely frickin fantastic plugin mdsp ----- the future of music can be grasped with this -------- if I can get it to work properly over a whole pattern!!
If I loop a couple of patterns over ,say , 16 bars , it does its thing great , but if I take the loop off and play the same patterns in song mode , it does its stuttery fantastic thing for 4 bars and then doesnt affect the rest. I'm using F L 5 pro and up till now , I've been using supatrigga but this is an altogether much more versatile beastie. You're a very clever man. Please make some kinda manual for this when u get the time , as I think everyone else would agree , its a hard animal to tame. Keep up the good work !!!

hi,

I'll set a wiki on my site to document the plugins, I think this is the best way to go, so that people can also contribute.
and add links to audio material they've done with them.

for the warp mode,
you have probability sliders between [0.0;1.0]
* straight probability of having a cut
* regular probability of regularly spaced repeated cuts
* ritard probability of accelerating/decellerating cuts
* speeed acceleration/deceleration speed

IIRC straight chooses roll vs no roll
if there is a roll
then the regular and ritard sliders act as weighted probabilities, (1.0,1.0) is equivalent to (0.5,0.5)

if you can find better names, I'll take them.
and once the wiki will be setup please contribute.

having a good synchronization to host that works in every host can be very tricky. That's why it's still a beta release.

the 4/4 8th note case is the one that should work best at least in live and bidule.
